Etna is a Sicilian volcano that originated in the Quaternary Period and is the highest active volcano in Europe. Its varying eruptions have modified the landscape over time, often threatening the different populations that have settled around it throughout the millennia.
Its surface is characterized by a rich variety of environments that alternate between urban landscapes, woods (that retain several botanical species endemic to this area), coverings of magmatic rock and is periodically subject to snow in the higher regions.
