Trekking walks through wonderful landscapes of the Mount Etna. For excursion lovers, differentiated paths to discover the naturalistic and scenic richness of the volcano.
1. Mount Sartorius (easy)
One of the easier and suggestive path of the Etna Natural Park. Spectacular botanical and geological variety present on the north-eastern side of the volcano, near the historic Rifugio Citelli. (2 hours)
2. Zappini Black Mount (easy)
The first naturalistic path in Sicily. It is extended through lava fields, caves and woods. Easy to access for all types of walkers who want to enjoy a great view. (3 hours)
3. Pietracannone – Cubania – Italia Path (medium-easy)
Starting from Pietracannone houses, this path first cross one of the sites where the ancient lava basalt is preserved, working as surface of a “trazzera” ( countryside road) , and then arrive to one of the most ancient “niviere” , ancient pits to preserve the ice in the summer. (3 hours)
4. Case Pirao – Monte Spagnolo ( medium-easy)
From the Pirao houses to Monte Spagnolo, the walk along this path leads to discover the most majestic and centuries-old “faggetta” of the Mount Etna, and of numerous “hornitos” , throughout the route. The way back to the starting point cross high brooms fields and the “Cisternazza”. (5 hours)
5. Piano Dei Grilli (medium-hard)
This place owes its name to a great presence of crickets and insects. The route runs within this Special Protection Area, among volcanic cones, preserving intact nature corners and preserving a rich and unique biodiversity. (7 hours)
